WBC and 13 chicken wings

Today has been just perfect. When I woke up I had a song in my head I couldn’t move. It seemed silly (and I wont share it) but it was all about how great today could be. But I couldn’t dare dream it would.

Read yesterdays post for what happened with team Ireland, it was special. But this morning at 7am we turn up at the conference hall ready to set up. I’m at a bit of a spare part as Colin and David know the routine inside out and I am the new boy. I try and do what I can but I start to get all nervous. I’m not sure what about, but I seem to have so much invested in the whole experience. I get into the groove, and I start being useful again, and the good news is Colin is the first up. So Colins performance is immaculate, it looks perfect from our position but we are biased. But I’ve got to tell you I was so confident he had made the top six.

Colin 365 days ago on the 18th (his performance date) he applied for his first job as a Barista, turning his back on a safe and very lucrative career in banking. Exactly one year later he is performing in the World Championships and is considered one of the best six baristas. the other thing against him is 4 weeks ago we were not roasting the coffee for Colin. It was a last minute thing and its been a crazy rush to select and best roast the coffee.

Then the wait, waiting for people to finish waiting for sponsors to be loved, waiting for everything. But the announcements come. The third comes and I fear the worst, maybe the coffee let it down, maybe it wasn’t what they were looking for. But its announce the champion barista from irel…….. then it goes off, man hugs all around (sorry Dave) big shouts and much outbursts of joy.

I can not believe that we made the top six. I hoped and my head said yes, but I so didn’t want to be disappointed. This years competition season has been so hard work but this is a great reward for the hard work.

Tomorrow we have won whatever happens, but if they gave the prizes for passion commitment and team spirit then we have so won already.

Not 100% sure but I think Colin will be on around 6:30 pm UK time.

What a weekend
